Contract publishing

As publishers, particularly in the field of teacher training, we have been able to offer our expertise to a number of partners who have identified a need for published materials. When working in this way, we are often asked to help develop concepts, find authors and produce resources in a variety of media. Although most of our work is in the printed medium, the development skills required to produce online resources are extremely similar, and we have collaborated to produce book and web-based materials. We have also worked with a partner company, bdp media solutions, to produce video case studies.

Recent projects have included:

  • DfES: Self-study materials for supply teachers
A major national project to produce self-study materials to help supply teachers develop their classroom practice and keep up-to-date. We worked in a consortium with St Martin’s College, and delivered five books and an associated website.

  • NCSL: Leading from the Middle
A new initiative from the National College for School Leadership to develop leadership skills in middle managers in schools. We worked with the main contractor, the Centre for Educational Leadership at the University of Manchester, advising on strategies for development of training resources, and providing editorial services.

  • LSDA: Improving Initial Assessment in Work-based Learning
We are helping the professional officer at LSDA to create a book to support the process of initial assessment in work-based learning. We have advised on the scope of the text, and will provide a complete production service for the book.

  • TTA: Supporting Assessment for the Award of QTS
When the 4/98 professional standards for Qualified Teacher Status were established, the TTA produced video and printed materials to exemplify the standards. We were part of a consortium with Liverpool Hope University College on this contract, and we provided editorial, design, typesetting and printing services.

We enjoy the opportunity to work in teams on these major projects, and we continue to form partnerships and prepare bids. If you would like to discuss how we might work with you, please feel free to contact Jonathan Harris by email here or by phone on 01392 215560.
